Her story

A personal approach to your care

Are you looking for a personal approach? I am a midwife and care provider who wants to connect with you to build to build your family. From my family to yours. Would you love an advocate and advisor for your care, family planning and pregnancy?

Hi my name is Jana Schenkel, I am a mother of 3, (Otto, Sabrina and Dasha) and a wife to a wonderful husband, Richard.

I believe that midwifery is a calling and that GOD has called me to be a midwife. Affirmed life and providing care for mom and baby in a holistic and respectful way for both.

I started my journey in Germany at the age of 16. After 3 yr I went to the US to take a year for traveling and exploring a new culture. However, after I arrived in the US at the age of 19, I started realizing that a midwife here in the US has more of an impact then in Germany. I also realized that my education did not count in the US at all.

In 2010, I graduated University of Detroit Mercy as an RN and in 2015 finished my Masters at Wayne State University in Nursing (Womens & Children's Health and Midwifery). In the following 5 years I worked in 2 major Hospitals, first in Flint then in Mishawaka and a low income clinic – Healthlinc. In 2019, I accepted a position as a midwife in Topeka, IN and shortly after that I branched out and opened up own business – Happy Stork Midwifery Service.

To assist and to see families being born is an amazing experience for me and even after catching over 800 babies, I am still amazed about birth every single time. I truly believe that the closest we are be able to see the love of God in a physical form is when mom or dad sees their child for the first time, and I feel privileged to be a part of that amazing moment.

I have growth and adjusted my knowledge since I graduated over a decade ago. I have learned how to be a midwife outside of your usual hospital environment. I would not want to work any other way, ever!
